Methods For Cleaning Morganite Gemstone

Morganite is a pink tinted gemstone in the beryl family. It has only been known as “Morganite” since 1911. Before that, it was known as a pink form of Beryl. It is commonly used in fashion jewelry and engagement rings. The gem is often heated to maintain its pinkish color, and this process is stable, making Morganite easy to take care of. This guide will give you some tips on cleaning Morganite to ensure that it stays bright forever.

Morganite is a beautiful gemstone that if treated properly, will last you a lifetime!

There are many ways to clean or cleanse a stone. Which method you choose should be based upon the type of stone, how much time you have, and what tools are readily available to you. Once again, let your intuition be your guide.

Warm, soapy water is always a safe method for cleaning Morganite gemstones. Cleaning by ultrasonic and steam cleaners is usually safe, unless the stone has liquid inclusions or fractures.

Rarely, Morganite gemstone might be fracture filled. These stones should only be cleaned with warm, soapy water.

Morganite can attract oil  and any kind of dirt or dust. This then dries up and builds up over time. It’s important to always clean before there are new layers of buildup.

  1. Soak in plain warm water (hot tub warm) for a couple of minutes.
  2. Gently brush with soft bristle brush (kids toothbrush works great) a mixture of foamy dish soap and water all around the gem (especially under the stone) for a good 2 to 5 minutes to remove all buildup. You should notice the stone becoming cleaner.
  3. Rinse with water.
  4. Shake off excess water.
  5. Blow dry.

Remember: annual professional maintenance is highly recommended on all fine jewelry as well as attentive care and extra love so it can be kept for generations. These are helpful tips for keeping your Morganite jewelry clean! Annual inspections are a great idea as well and really should be done.

Ultrasonic Cleaner

There are many types of small machines on the market that will clean, in a matter of minutes, any piece of Morganite jewelry that is placed in the liquid. They consist of a metal cup which you fill with water and detergent. When the machine is turned on, a high-frequency turbulence creates the cleaning action.

Cold Water Soak

Make a half-and-half solution of cold water and household ammonia in a cup. Soak the pieces 30 minutes. Lift out and tap gently around the back and front of the mounting with an old soft toothbrush. Swish in the solution once more and drain on tissue paper.

Holisticly Cleaning Morganite

Holistic cleaning of gemstones removes the energies that may have been picked up by the gem in it’s previous travels. Stone that are used for healing should always be cleansed between uses.

Running Water Method

Stones can be held in running water. (It is not advisable using tap water because most cities have many chemicals in the water). The stones can be left in the rain or held in a creek or water can be poured over them. Use only bottled spring water, rain water or boiled water unless it is a natural spring, creek or river.

Smoke Method

Stones can be passed in the smoke of sandalwood incense or the smoke of a sage smudge stick.

Fire Method

Stones can be passed over the flame of a white candle.

Burying Method

Stones can be buried in sea salt or in the earth overnight..

Sun Method

For sun based rituals place the stone on sea salt and put it where the sunlight will fall on it for a day. It is best for the stones to be outside, as glass will deflect some light, but the stones may be placed in a window.

Crystal Method

Stones can be place on a crystal cluster and put in the sunlight. This must be done outside. This is a safe way for most stones.
