Bangkok Gem Fair and the Gold Coast Jewellery Fair

This time of the year is when the jewellery trade really starts to get going again. I have just returned from the Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair, and although there was a mixed response from traders in Bangkok, there are still some gems they are trading strong.

Since my last trip, the prices of a few gemstones caught me by surprise. Aquamarine was trading in the rough for over $250 / gram, which can equate to over $200 / ct for finished stones. The other shock was pink Tourmaline with prices increasing out of reach. Luckily with a bit of hard work and searching, I did manage to find some stones that are of nice quality and at a reasonable price.

This year I also noticed an increase in the number of rare collector gems. Some of these include the Spanish stone Sphalerite, The Turkish stone Csarite (Turkish Diaspore), and some rare Spinels.

Australian Jewellery Fair – Gold Coast

This year, the JAA is holding the Jewellery fair right here on the Gold Coast. Unfortunately due to us setting up a new shop we wont be exhibiting at the fair this year. However we will still be open for business, so if you would like to make an appointment and drop by during the show, please let me know. We are only 5 minutes drive from the exhibition.
